no decoder installed

When I tried to view a movie I got that there was no decoder software installed.  I just got my computer about 3 weeks ago and it is an xps 400 running windows xp media center.  I did have to reformat my hard drive due to an error that I kept getting and I do not have any program with it other than the windows disc, the security and word perfect discs and the hardware discs that came with it.  I am at a loss as to what to do but at the same time have no idea if I am even in the right forum.  Could some one please direct me to the right forum if I am in the wrong one and if not could someone please tell me what I need to do?

Thanks,

"Some lady in sales" is wrong, unless you are out of warranty. Use the Dell Chat or email links here to ask for all your backup media.

Join the crowd. I have had the poorest tech support with this computer than I have ever had with any of my Dells. It reminds me of the service you got with Packard H*ll's, oh excuse me I believe that was Packard Bells. I just know that I only owned one Packard H*ll and I don't think that I will ever own another Dell after this one. I wish I was rich and could just throw it out the door to the trash collectors. But sigh, I can't afford to do that. What gets me is I bought the back up CDs with my computer and still didn't have this one and ended up buying the thing. I still don't have the usb ports on the front of my computer working, although Dell says it just needed windows reinstalled. Well I have done that and it still doesn't work. Due to sickness I have not been about to call them back because I don't have time to mess with them now, but before the 4 year warrant runs out, which will be almost 4 years from now, I will get it resolved, if I wait long enough I am sure there will be more problems because I also get a memory dump error almost every day. I know the day I bought my XPS the next day they had them on QVC, and at the time I thought, there is no way Dell can mass produce that many computers without having some lemons, well get what? I didn't buy mine off QVC but I sure got a lemon.

Wow I wish I had been told this. I called for it and they told me I didn't need it and sent the Sony DVD program which does nothing. I am so sick of talking to Dell on the phone and then someone here, maybe you have left me messages but to be honest I have been sick since I got this computer, not over the computer, well that too, but physically sick and have not had the time to do as I should, but what I did do didn't work for my problems.

I am having this problem with a E510 Angel II dual tuner.

I had to contact Dell twice to get all the discs. The pc is at another location and they didn't send it there as I requested, so I had to create an image and send it via ICQ...500MB.

I don't think this PC had PowerDVD, but rather MyDVD. I hope it works. If anyone else knows of a solution, PLEASE post it in case this doesn't work. I find it completely ridiculous you have to go through all this to get a decoder for the TV to work.
