Open Internet Explorer, on top click "View" then "Toolbars" and put a check mark next to "Address Bar"

I'm sorry then - I have no idea. Perhaps someone else has a suggestion.

Try to delete the WebBrowser registry key

1. Click Start, Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

2. Locate the registry key:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

3. Right-click the WebBrowser key, click Delete, and then click Yes.

4. Open Internet Explorer, click View, and then point to Toolbars. The toolbar default settings are restored.

I can't see to type this all in the small box of a Dell instant message so I typed it here.  You can type more words here too.  If you need clarification on my explanation please ask and I will try my best :)

You have to click on the + signs.

For example HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar means to the left of “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” you will either see a + or a – sign.  The + sign means that key has subfolders and by clicking on the + sign expands them.

After you click the + sign to the left of “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” then click the + sign to the left of “Software”, then click the + sign to the left of “Internet Explorer”, then click the + sign to the left of “Toolbar”.

You will see a folder in the left window that says “WebBrowser”.  This is the folder or "key" you delete.

After you do this and close registry editor don't forget the last step to open Internet Explorer, click View, and then point to Toolbars.

russell,
i am very embarrassed. mea culpa.
the address bar was hiding behind the "settings" icon directly across from my google search box.
thank you so very much for your time.

I'm glad you found it:smileyhappy:.  I always make sure "Lock the Toolbars" is checked so I don't accidentally move them.  Some people hide the address bar and type everything in a search box of a web page.  I would rather do directly to the web page.
