Host process for windows services closed after power save mode

Make sure you are up to date on your Critical Patches at Windows Update. Even a new computer is already out of date the day you receive it. Some Sleep problems have been helped with the recent updates, but not all problems are solved yet. To see what the error is, go to Administrative Tools on the Start menu, Event Viewer. Thank you very much for this hint. It looks like the "McAfee Real-time Scanner" is the problem. I have uninstalled McAfee because I am using Kaspersky but it seems that there are still some traces of McAfee left. Error message is something like "The system cannot find the file".

How do I get McAfee out of the system?

If you uninstalled using the add/remove programs feature there might still be some files in your Program Files. Look there and see if there is a McAfee folder. I had the same problem uninstalling Norton. Norton actually has a "Norton Antivirus Removal Took Kit" on their website. Maybe McAfee does as well?

Thank you for the hint! There is in fact an uninstall program on the McAfee support site, I downloaded and executed it, at least the McAfee subfolder under C:\Programs is now gone, that is a good sign. I hope it solved the instability problems.

I finally found the error log and it seems that the problem is a windows component called svchost.exe_stisvc. It crashed 28 times in the last 25 days. Any idea what the problem might be?

What antivirus program are you using now? Have you run a full virus scan? I would do that first. It might be spyware or malware. svchost.exe is an important part of your operating system. You might try cleaning out your registry. I've never done that but i found a website that gives a link to a registry cleaner RegCure Registry Cleaner; here's the link:  http://fix-pc-errors.com/svchost-definition.htm. If your computer is new and you continue to have the problem and don't want to try cleaning the registry yourself, I would call the manufacturer and get some professional help.
