Help Needed
I have installed and uninstalled flash and shockwave many times, using several different suggested methods. I can locate them as installed on my computer but my games do not recognize them. Anyone have any suggestions. I use XP on Inspiron 1505 at beginner level.

Does this page show both Flash and Shockwave as installed and working?
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/
Just in case - here's the links to the Flash and Shockwave player uninstallers:

Am I correct that you can't see ANY Flash content (e.g., YouTube), or is it only a specific site or game? In any case, it sounds like something's blocked:
1) From the Internet Explorer menu, Tools, Internet Options, Security Tab, and click Default Level. This should enable ActiveX controls if they're disabled - or at least prompt you with a yellow security bar across the top of the page to use them.
2) In Internet Options -> Advanced, click on Restore Defaults.
3) Tools -> Manage Add-ons, look for Shockwave Flash objects and make sure they're enabled.
If that doesn't do it, I'd start looking at your firewall/antivirus settings, which might be blocking them as well.

Did you reboot after reinstalling Flash?
And in addition to Alexandra's good advice, try clearing the browser cache.

Scanned for malware lately?
Try running a windows system file check:
click Start>Run
type in: sfc /scannow
(space between sfc and /)
click OK
Insert XP CD if sfc requests it and reboot when it's done.
If Flash still doesn't run, you should run Adobe's Flash Removal Tool and then reboot. Now install the latest version of Flash available on their site.

System restore is an option if you believe your system is clean of malware and the file check doesn't turn up anything:

Now I'm confused. Why/when are you being asked for the product code?
You run the windows system file check from the normal desktop. Don't boot from XP CD.
<>At desktop:Start>run... (see my previous post)
sfc should NOT ask for your XP product code.
Glad you find DCF better than all the other forums, combined. ;)

S-T-O-P !!!!
Do not reinstall XP!!
Boot the system like always from the hard drive. When you're at your regular desktop,
Click Start>run
type in: sfc /scannow
(space between sfc and /)
click OK
Insert XP CD only if sfc requests it. Remove the XP CD and reboot normally when sfc is done.
Follow the above instructions exactly!

What version of XP is on the CD (SP2?) ? And have you updated the hard drive to SP3?
