handyman839,

There is no such file as file.ini. Please post the exact error message that you are receiving.

handyman839,

I assume that you can go past the black screen and boot to Windows. If so, the information here may enable you to eliminate the error message.

Hello handyman839,

I think I know exactly which error message to which you are refering.  However, I think you need to re-read it, because I think the one you are talking about does not in fact say that the ini file is missing.  It says that a FILE that the system.ini file is refering to is either corrupt or does not exist.  Re-read it.  If it says this, then it is a simple fix.

Here is what to do after writing down the name of the file (it is usually a dll file):

1.  Once you are inside Windows, go to the C:\Windows directory.

2.  Now find the file "System.ini" and open it.

3.  Go to "Edit" and then "Find..."

4.  Now type in the name of the dll file in its entirity and press enter.

5.  It should find it.  When it does, delete the entire line.

6.  Exit the file and agree to save the changes.

7.  Restart your computer and all is well.

First of all, there is a such thing as an "ini" file.  More specifically , "system.ini".  The registry reads from this file.  Have you not tried what I suggested, hanyman839??  If the specific file is: "ndiswan.vxd", then follow the instructions I gave and search for and delete the line containing the "ndiswan.vxd" text.  I promise, if you can find that line and delete it, the Registry can not be refering to it anymore.

Boot the system in the Dos mode.(press control at startup or F8 ).
Type following at the prompt.

c:\>scanreg /restore.

If the problem cann't solved.Copy the missing .ini file from some other system to the same location from where the file is copy.
