every so often a big notice about windows 10 updates covers the center of the screen in an overlay and i have to reboot to remove it.

I have a Dell laptop about a year old running windows 10.  Every so often a large box in an overlay covers the screen and shows text about windows 10 updates and how great they are.  There is no way to close it or remove it except to reboot the system.  Is there somewhere i can go to stop this?  Registery, app, hammer!

Hi there, Can you let me know what the update screen is about (maybe a screen shot), and is this a screen that is asking you to update or just information?

Best regards,

Brad

Here is the window that takes over my screen.  I would not be upset if I could just close it but you have to reboot.

I saw such a message just prior to the Creator's build being released, but it was on the Update page and not as a separate message.

When the message is open, you might check the Task Manager to see if you can pick out what is showing it and end that task.  It may even be on the Startup tab where you could disable it.

Why that message is coming up as an individual window, I don't know unless you clicked on something which started it.

Just received the Windows 10 Creators Update notification on my desktop as well. In the screen, click on Review Your Privacy Settings and then on the next page, click Agreed. The notification is letting you know windows 10 creators is about to be install on the system in the near future. Please click on link below:

I found the windows update under the windows update assistant which is a program link in the menu of programs.  I ran the update and it failed so I ran the repair troubleshooting app they recommended and it fixed some issues.  I then ran the update again and it all worked.  So now that the machine is at the Windows Creators update we will see if that message comes up again.  I do not mind the message it was just that there was no way to close it.

Thanks for all the replies

Thanks so much for the updates/picture, and for the help LSUFAN51! I am glad it sounds like this got fixed, this has been my experience on bigger updates for Windows too (sometimes). Hopefully now that the Creators update is out of the way you should be set, but definitely let us know if it comes back.

Best regards,

Brad
