Error Message at Startup

I keep receiving  message when I logon to my computer that states "Unexpected Error: Quitting." The message doesn't say what application it is from and only gives me an 'OK' button. Once I click it the message goes away and the machine runs fine. How do I go about either fixing the process that creates the error message or removing it completely. It obviously is more of a nusance than a priority, but I thought I would see if anyone had any ideas. Thanks for your time.

MSfStl,

Go to Start|Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Event Viewer. Take a look under Application and System for errors whose time coincides with your startup. The offending program should be identifiable through there.

You probably need to disable all (uncheck all) in startup, ok,(or apply) reboot, then add one startup item at a time, and reboot. If you get the error, look at the last item you enabled.

Good luck.

BTW, do not connect to the internet with your antivirus disabled.

It could also be spyware..

Go to start---Run--- Type in "msconfig" (without quotes) OK

Click the startup tab. what entries are checked?

Ok, well I selected Normal Startup and rebooted and I still received the error message and then a couple of program started to run. so I went and changed it back to selective Startup as it was. and I am now back to where I was.

First off thanks! I think we are getting closer. I looked into the event viewer and found nothing on the application list however, when I poked into the system log I did find my error posted. I brought up properties and this is what it gave me:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10010
Date:  2/25/2005
Time:  4:16:26 PM
User:  EPRGDOM\cdslam
Computer: EPRG-B1443
Description:
The server {0DE200BA-4B11-49C4-83F9-9E1F749E5700} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

I went to the link and it was of no help to me. So, at least I have it narrowed down and maybe in the future I'll have some spare time to fix it.

unless, you can think of anything that might be a quick fix, without jeopardizing my system, I am going to let the sleeping dog lie.

As far as the msconfig went I have a lselective startup which does not allow 'Load Startup Items', I wonder if that might be part of it?
