Driver Disabled message, tried to download a driver only to get error message

KristenP, is this the patch you tried to install, if not, this is what you need to resolve the issue.

 

Is this the error message?

 

"A driver is installed that causes stability problems with your system. This driver will be disabled. Please contact the driver manufacturer for an update that is compatible with this version of Windows."

mombodog, yes, that is the exact message I get and that is the exact link I went to do get the quick fix but then I got the "ERROR  String OS_ERROR1 was not found in string table" when I followed the directions for downloading and running the patch or whatever it is.

 

--Edited to add that I followed these instructions (after saving the fix to my desktop):

 

1.Double-click the new icon on the desktop labeled R143248.EXE.
2.The Self-Extracting window appears and prompts you to extract or
unzip to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R143248. Write down this path so the executable (I.e.
Setup.exe) file can be found later.
3.The Self-Extractor window appears.
4.Click OK.
5.After completing the file extraction, if the Self-Extractor
window is still open, close it.
6.Click the Start button and then click Run.
7.Type C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R143248 in the Open textbox and then click OK.
8.Follow the on-screen installation instructions.

 

Except that steps 2 through 5 didn't appear.  That might be the problem.  However, I don't know how to fix it.

Move the file off of the desktop to a folder of choice, then,

 

 

Right click on the Rxxx file and choose properties, if there is an "unblock" button available click it, hit OK.

 

 Right click it again, choose "run as administrator"  see if it will install now.

I downloaded the patcc directly from Roxio website when I received my E1505 from here.

If you still not able to make it work, another thing can help you it is to uninstal Roxio Drag to Disc from Programs and Features, it is not really necesary and Windows has the Drag n Drop feature...
