DLL Cache
Hi
When I run sfc /scannow I keep geting a message that says "Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache". I put in the XP Pro cd put it says it is the wrong disc. Now I only have one copy of XP so I don't understand how it could be the wrong cd.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem, but when I put the cd in the pc it does not start automatically, I have to go into My Computer to get to the set up file. Makes me think the PC can't read from the disc because of that.
There are a number of files that need to be copied so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

"Run--> gpedit.msc
Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security
Settings\Local Policies\Security Options
Double-click the Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only
policy, click Disabled under Local Policy , and then click OK .
On the Console menu, click Exit , and then restart the computer.
You should no longer get the "wrong CD" message."
You may want to reset this setting when you get sfc running properly. If this doesn't work you may be looking at a registry edit. I had a different sfc problem that was cured by regedit.

Do you get message "Insert your Windows XP Pro. CD-ROM now" or do you get message asking for "......XP SP1 CD-ROM now". ?
If you get last message & you don't have XP Pro. SP1 CD you might have to change your Product Key.
As if its an OEM DELL installation they don't install with your COA Product Key they use a generic Product Key.
I had received wrong disk message & I changed my Product Key to my COA Product Key & then it accepted the DELL reinstallation XP CD for SFC /scannow

Thanks Guys
Maxd came up with the solution. I followed your instructions and it copied some files from the cd. I don't understand what this is all about personally, but thanks for your help. I will try and download McAfee now and see if this helps that problem. It gets so far, but when it goes to install the downloaded files an Action Failed window appears.
Thanks again
