Device Manager - Unknown Devices - PC not recognizing some peripherals
Recently my desktop quit recognizing my two epson scanners, my canon camera and my logitech webcam. I have removed ALL related software and re-installed it. I have also ensured that all drivers are updated from the epson, canon and logitech websites. Most times the devices show up in device manager under a category "unknown devices" and indicate the device is working. When I use smart panel to access the scanner I get the error message ünable to access the scanner because it is not ready or another application is using it. I sometimes to get error messages like "there is no registry data for Epson Smart Panel" accompanied by a constant "dinging"sound on my speakers. I have similar problems when plugging in my canon powershot S30. I shows in the device manager as "unknown device" but still recognizes it as a powershot S30 and says it is working properly. Neither the scanners, camera or webcam show up under "My Computer". I have spent much time online with both canon and epson techs uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and software and checking everything they can think of but they are at a loss to solve the problems. Their techs suggest this is an operating system problem - perhaps with my registry. Need help badly.

If that doesn't do it, disconnect all USB devices except mouse and keyboard. Open device manager and expand list under USB. Right-click and uninstall all USB entries. Exit device manager and reboot. XP should reinstall the USB ports.

Also:
1. All that USB gear may be overloading the power available on the USB hubs. In that
case you may need to use an externally powered USB hub.
2. Disconnect all USB devices except mouse/keyboard.
Open Device Manager and click View>show hidden devices
Work you way through the list and uninstall all references to any of the problem
devices. Exit and reboot. Try each USB device one at a time. You may need to
reinstall its driver again.
3. Open Device Manager and expand list under USB. Double-click each root hub, one at a time. Click Power Management tab and uncheck the box "Allow PC to turn off...". Click ok and repeat for all root hubs.

Hope the new board solves the problem. But I'm betting you need an externally powered USB hub to provide sufficent power for all those hungry beasts. ;)
Let us know what happens.
Happy holidays!
