Dell XPS M1210 and Windows Vista Ultimate x64

Hi,

After installing Windows Vista Ultimate x64 on my laptop (which I bought separately from eBuyer) I am left with two "Base System Device" entries in the device manager.  There were originally three but I believe one of them was the logitech web camera (which has now been installed).

Now these last two have me a bit puzzled as I cannot seem to find anyone else with this problem (maybe no one else has tried out x64 on their laptops yet) plus nothing really relating to them on the driver download page for Windows Vista x64.

Currently I do not have MediaDirect installed or any of the additional Dell support software (if I remember correctly there wasn't much in the way of downloads for the two of them anyway).

Does anybody have any ideas as two what these two base system devices represent?

Hi, thanks for the response.

However, would that driver not apply to your laptop (which seems to be a 1501) rather than an XPS M1210?

Hi that driver works for a lot of other laptops also and the driver is for a {xps m1710} .
That is where i was told to get it and it has worked for almost a month now with out problems.
It is up to you to use it or not just a though i had.

Well I decided to give your idea a try and it did indeed work after all.  Cheers. :smileywink:

EDIT - Btw what did you use for the synaptics touchpad driver?

After not finding a x64 one (in the XPS M1210 page) I downloaded one for Vista x64 off the Synaptics website.  However, Vista frequently makes a point of saying (when logging in) that the driver isn't digitally signed (even though I'm sure Synaptics said it was) so if there's an alternative to this dilemma that would be much appreciated too.
