Dell OS Recovery Tool fails to create a bootable USB, destroying the USB in the process.

Had the SSD for my Alienware 15 laptop give out a couple of days ago, so I ordered a new one and in the meantime I am trying to create a bootable USB to install the Windows 10 OS when it arrives. I'm using a Latitude E7470 to create the boot drive. First I tried it with a 16GB flash drive, but after downloading the files it starts to format the USB. That failed and broke the USB. It won't even format back to its original state. I went out and bought a brand new 32GB drive to try again with, and the same error occurred, with the same result. Brand new USB unusable and unformattable.

The error message is: "Sorry. an error occurred while extracting image file VTRMMA04_Win10x64ROW_home.iso. Please check the file and try again."

When you close that message, it then tells you that the USB needs to be formatted before use, but it is unable to format the USB. It says only 2GB is available and the format fails even if you try to format it to be a 2GB flash.

The problem is that the flash drive is counterfeit.

It says its 8 gigs or more but its actually a 2 gig drive that has firmware that tells windows something else.

I have the same error message: "Sorry. an error occurred while extracting image file VTRMMA04_Win10x64ROW_home.iso. Please check the file and try again."

It doesnt not damage my flash drive though, but I am still not able to recover windows on my laptop.

Did the same to me but for a different file. Managed to fix my "new" 2gb drive and return it to 15gig using bootice (Google your problem and add the word bootice for instructions)  but then I also had to use the diskpart command in command prompt to assign a letter to the drive as my f drive dissapeared
