Dell Backup and Recovery Factory Recovery Error (Windows 10)
I own a Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop. I recently upgraded to Windows 10. Previously, I created backups and factory restore partitions using a 1TB external USB hard drive. After upgrading to Windows 10 I cannot create factory backups. After differing periods of time in the backup process, sometimes before preparing the disc, sometimes after, the backup will display an error and stop.
I have not tried to create normal backups yet.
I have formatted the drive even though it previously held my backups fine, but this has not changed the issue.
If it helps, after I receive the error, Dell Backup and Restore no longer detects the USB drive until I close Dell Backup and Restore. The computer system otherwise can still see the drive normally.
The exact message is "An error occurred while creating the Factory Recovery Media."
My software version is 1.9.0.22 and the program says it is the latest version as of time of posting.

I am facing the same problem. However when I tried to make a factory recovery media just before updating to Windows 10, I got the same message.

I have the exact same problem and amazed that there is no response from Dell. I have tried to backup factory setting/files on external hard drive as well as a USB Pen drive BUT keep getting an error after initialization is done. Frustrating!!

I gave up using Dell Backup & recovery a while ago due to problems with it crashing and creating additional partitions. See http://www.eightforums.com/performance-maintenance/63044-dell-backup-recovery-keeps-creating-partitions.html
I now use Macrium Reflect which is far more capable. If you ask Dell nicely, they may give you a free factory restore USB if you want to keep this option

with latest update on Dell Data Backup recovery 1.9.1.3 version I could create recovery media. but still this version keep asking to update recovery media waiting fix for this.
If you call dell for this error They have given me Windows 8 recovery CD and told that you will not be able to create recovery media for Windows 10.

In Windows 10 I've created a Windows 10 build 1511 reset image and use Macrium Reflect backups. I still have the Dell recovery partition and recovery USB - but these are Windows 8.1 and I doubt I'll use them.

the dell backup and restore is no longer free if you upgrade to Windows 10. it only allows you to recover your laptop to previous version of Windows (definitely not Windows 10) unless you purchase the Dell Backup and Recovery Premium licence. You have to pay for the higher version. I suggest you use another free program to backup dell laptop in windows 10.
