dell 8400:64bit compatible?

i read somewhere that the 8400 will support a 64bit CPU. Is this true? if so, is there a worthwhile performance gain when using a 64bit CPU; and where can buy one?

i read that the 8400 uses the 925x chipset which, according to the site i looked at, supports 64bit CPUs. So should it work with them if a 64bit OS comes out in the future?

?. No. No.  Also, there is no operating system support for 64 bit processors.

the motherboard on the 8400 is ccompatible with 64-bit extensions. but the processors that are currently shipping with the 8400 are not. in the future, if you have enough quad, u can consider buying intel 660 that is capable of 64-bit processing.

The Processors that are shipping with the Dimension 8400 are the Pentium 4 6xx series which have the EMT64 extentions.

The Pentium 4 6xx series are 64-bit compatible.  You can go to Intel's website and check out the capabilities of their processor lines.

You can order a dell 8400 that is 64-bit compatible.

The 8400 should also be compatible with the Intel 5x1 line that include 64bit.  See the new dimensions 5100 for the intel 5x1 line.

Maybe not back on March 23 but there is now.

I've had x64 installed on my 8400 for about 2 weeks now.  Running very stable.  The only drivers missing are actually connected to the ATI x600 video card I have installed which wasn't part of the 8400.  The sound drivers were the only ones not in XP x64 natively and they can be found by looking under the precision 370 drivers on the dell site.

Now if everything else would get 64bit drivers.  Dell Laser Printer 1600n.

My DJ works cause i have the playforsure firmware.   Don't think there are drivers for the dell dj firmware.
