Computer frozen at welcome screen

I have a Dimesion 2400. When I turn on the computer, after XP loads it freezes at the welcome screen. Anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Can you access the system using the F8 keystroke on the Windows XP splash screen to get it into safe mode? If you can not access the system in this manner, first try resetting the configuration data in the BIOS, and get a new read on your drives. If the system still will not boot into windows, you will then run the repair option on the XP cd. One other suggestion, disconnect all your external devices, and try a boot up. If the system boots up then you would have a piece of hardware causing the boot problem.

Thanks guys, this is the exact same problem I'm having. I was able to restart my computer in safe mode and take off service pack 2 through the "add/remove programs" and it works fine now. THANKS!
