Can't get chkdsk /f to run on boot

Question

I'm having a problem trying to get chkdsk to work on reboot. I go to run and then type
chkdsk c: /f , and then when it asks me if it should run on reboot i answer yes.

But when I reboot, nothing happens.

Any ideas?

try this instead.. go to start/my computer/..then rightclick on 'local disk: (c: )', select 'properties', then 'tools', then click 'check now' for error-checking, and check both of the boxes there (one is for 'fix errors').. then, shut down the computer, then reboot.. eventually you should see a blue screen saying that a diskcheck has been scheduled, or something like that...   do you use 'processguard'? maybe that can prevent chkdsk from running.. I tried that but still no luck. Now it at least tries to do something when I reboot, but it says 'can't open volume for direct access'. This is driving me crazy

One possibility:

There was a problem with an older version of Zone Alarm (5.0 I think) that prevented chkdsk from running on restart, giving that message. If you don't have that app, maybe something else that loads on startup is causing the same problem. Use msconfig to see what you have loading on startup and try successively disabling items.

Don't type the drive letter in the Run command. It always checks C drive by default. Just type CHKDSK  /F and try it again.

I do have zone alarm, so that is probably the problem. I'm pretty sure i disabled it in msconfig and restarted, but I'll have to try again. (can't right now, at work).

Also, I have tried the chkdsk /f, but when i do that the screen just flashes black real quick, and nothing happens. At least when i put the drive letter something happens.

you are working from a command prompt when trying to run 'chkdsk /f'? to open 'command prompt', go to start/run, and type 'cmd' (minus quotation marks), then, in the command prompt, type 'chkdsk /f'.. or go to start/all programs/accessories/'command prompt'..

Ok I have tried everything. I uninstalled zonealarm and tried with no luck. I've tried running all the commands from run and also from the command prompt with no luck.

I read something about a thing called ''Crypkey Service'', ''Crypkey License,'' and possibly a driver ''NetworkX'', won't let it run. Windows has an article about it, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q176504/ but it is for windows nt, and I don't think it applies to xp.

Any other thoughts??

Do a search, on my computer it showed CHKDSK  c:\I386  and chkdsk c:\windows\system32.Maybe a bad file?

Also if I double click either file it will run in read only mode.
