Big problem with IE6,please help
Today I had to reinstall some missing files from a previous clean install using the Windows Me reinstallation CD as I was directed by a wonderful dell tech.
Prior to today I had IE6, now my system has bounced back to IE version 5.50. I've tride to install IE6 from Microsoft Updates, it downloads but then it tells me "setup was unable to install all components. Please close all applications & try running setup again".
I closed everything but systray & explorer prior to downloading and again running setup when I reboot my system, I even reboot in safe mode and go to windows/windows update setup file/ie6 setup.exe and it gives me the same warning.
What am I doing wrong????
windows Me, dimension 4100
Please help me,
thanks, Newbeee

See if the procedure here can resolve the problem.

Denny, thanks for your speedy reply. All that seams pretty scareyyy for someone like me . I'll try to get my self confidence up in a few days and try it.
I think my main problem was that I didn't remove IE6 prior to reinstalling those files from the reinstallation CD, not thinking that it would take me back to it's original IE5.5
Thanks again,

Hi Denny,
I fixed it but I used a different method.
go to my computer-tools-folder options -view: select "show hidden files and folders", apply-OK
then I went to programs-internet explorer and created a new folder named "old install"
then opened "uninstall information" and moved all files(not folder) to "old install"
restarted my computer in safe mode-my computer-programs-internet explorer- ie6setup.exe and let it run
worked great-hope this can help others
Thanks for your help,
Newbeee (Jerrie) love these forums

Denny, thanks, but I'm far from creative. I found the info from MS/software forum. I was suprised that so many others have the same problem.
thanks,
