Dell Command Update 3.1.2 - disable all notifications

We're looking for a way to disable all notifications from Dell Command Update (version 3.2.1) from the desktop. We have over 4,000 Dell desktops to configure this for, so hopefully there is a way to automate it via a registry edit, XML file, etc.

I found this thread to be helpful, https://www.dell.com/community/Optiplex-Desktops/Dell-Command-Update-3-1-Suppress-all-Notifications/td-p/7434466, but the solution posted by one person references a setting for 'no notifications' that I am not seeing in the 3.1.2 version under Update Settings.

From that menu, I have three choices, Notify only (when updates are available), Download updates (Notify when ready to install), and Download and install updates (Notify after complete).

For Automatically check for updates, I have that set to Manual Updates Only, yet the user still reports a notification from the task bar about Dell Command Updates being available.

I found this in the registry:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DELL\UpdateService\Clients\CommandUpdate\Preferences\Settings\Schedule]
"AutomationMode"="ScanDownloadNotify"
"ScheduleMode"="ManualUpdates"

Seems like maybe there is another option to AutomationMode, but I can not find any details on my options for that key.

Has anyone else successfully disabled all desktop notifications for Dell Command Update version 3.1.2?

Hey Mike,

I would also like to find a solution for this.

I'm having a further issue where I cannot change any settings in the Dell Command | Update 3.1.2 UWP app - all are greyed out. I was going to use ProcessExplorer to try and see what registry keys are edited when I change settings. Starting as administrator to try and gain permission to change these settings only throws an error. Do you experience this?

I'm figuring if we can find a registry key or XML file fix for this, I don't even have to worry about the settings that can't be edited, but wanted to see if it was something that also applied to your environment.

Looking further into this today when I have a few minutes and hope to come back with an update. Although my gut says that if you set the "Check for updates" mode to Manual, that stop the update notifications from coming through on user computers, but this doesn't appear to be the presented behavior for your user machines.

Hey Everyone, @White_Ninja @gmiller32 @MJ_CH

Apologies for the extremely delayed reply. Lots going on at work right now (trying to get Windows 10 2004 deployed!).

What we ended up doing is pushing out the below reg key to all of our user machines via group policy after testing on our pilot group for approximately 2 weeks. We went from having weekly tickets regarding Dell Command | Update notifying users that drivers are ready to no tickets in the last month that I can recall. I also run Dell Command | Update personally on my workstation and have not experienced any pop-ups what-so-ever since we put the reg key in place.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dell\UpdateService\Clients\CommandUpdate\Preferences\Settings\Schedule]
"ScheduleMode"="ManualUpdates"

Setting Group Policy to "Update" or "Replace" this key should keep the setting from being changed to automatic or some other setting that will notify your users. Below is a pretty good tutorial for doing this in Group Policy if you are new to it. Note the below URL is a third party URL so visit with caution. I'm not exactly sure of the third party URL rules on these forums, so PM/DM me if this link gets taken down and you need it.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi and thanks i will discuss this with the other admins and hopefully implement this.

So we dont get the users confused or even let them install the drivers/firmwares if the are notified and on the road.

Apparently this registry key is not present in version 4.8.

@Rei Maru Creating it worked for me, I do still see that notification setting set as notify so i am a bit worried but if you all are saying that this doesnt happen then i trust it.
