vSphere/vSAN renewal

Is anyone getting anywhere with this? Earlier this year I was quoted and invoiced by Dell/EMC for hardware and software maintenance. Our hardware has been extended, the VMware entitlements, not. When I asked my Dell rep he referred me to Broadcom. That was two weeks ago and I haven't received a response. Thanks

Hello lolcat2,

That is correct that VMware licensing is now handled by Broadcom.

@DELL-Sam L do you know how to contact Broadcom? I opened a case through their portal on 5/21 and haven't received even an acknowledgement.

If your Entitlement was a CPU licensed one, which was most likely the case than the Subsciption has ended and will not be renewed. There is no task anymore like the "Renewal".  All existing CPU based SnS Entitlements will ended when they reached the end of there period.

Every customer needs to start licensing from scratch.

Info: Iam an a VMware/Broadcom partner.

Joerg

Our reseller (a Dell partner) was told that Broadcom halted all quoting and processing as of May 13 to wind down the old VMware system, so nothing was going through.  On May 28th, they advised the new system partially launched the week prior, but still no quotes.  An internal webinar was scheduled for the 29th to introduce partners to the new system.  I have a follow-up call scheduled tomorrow where I plan to ask for an update as I've heard nothing else since then.

With the obvious backlog, new orders should (hopefully) start coming out soon.  We were, however, guaranteed that our order would be grandfathered with our perpetual licensing and pricing as we were invoiced and paid prior to the April 30th deadline.  (We renewed for 3 years; hardware EOLs in 4 years.)

This is what Dell sent them as of April 13th:

Highlights of What Changed:

  • VxRail and VCF on VxRail perpetual licenses will EOL and no longer be available for purchase after April 30, 2024. *Please note that this date is prior to the end of Q1.
  • Effective immediately, End of Life of VxRail and VCF on VxRail perpetual renewals. Renewals for VMware licenses will no longer be accepted and will need to be requoted
  • Effective immediately, VxRail and VCF on VxRail can only be transacted with a maximum 3-year term for VMware software and support.

Important Callouts:

  • All VxRail orders with perpetual eOEM licenses must be BOOKED by April 30th, 2024.
  • VxRail can only be transacted with a maximum 3-year term for VMware software and support.
  • VxRail renewals with perpetual VMware licenses will no longer be accepted.
  • May 1st and beyond, VxRail will be available with the following routes to market for VMware software:
    • Bring your own software (BYOS) VMware Subscriptions via VxRail ELA exception process
    • BYOS VMware Subscriptions via VMware Direct (future state-date TBD)
    • Dell sold VMware Subscriptions (future state- date TBD)
  • There is no impact to customers with existing VxRail systems entitled with VMware licenses. They will continue to be supported for the full term of their support contract.
  • This End-of-Life announcement does not impact the single vendor first call support and deployment experience through Dell. There is no change to ProSupport and ProDeploy.

Hope this helps shed some light on things.  I'll follow up with new info when I have it.

@lolcat2

the Post you linked is outdated. Also VxRail might be a little be special compared to the normal vSphere licensing stuff. What i can tell as a DELL and VMware Partner that it comes completly different as everyone thought and much faster than expected.

I have also doubt about the 3Y term because in the currenty VMware pricelist this SKU is dropped and only available on special request.

Joerg

Hi @Origin3k ,
Thanks for mentioning this, but does this mean licensing can be bought via Dell, or should it go via Broadcom?

What about the VxRail licensing and VCF one? Is it sold as a package, or are those two transactions?
