Reset VxRail V470F node to default factory configuration

Hi,

Could someone share or point me to the step-by-step instructions on how to reset a VxRail V470F node to the factory configuration? For what is worth, I can't find those on Solve Desktop (as many people on the forums have suggested). I know there's a reset.py script, where can it be downloaded?

Thanks all,

Pablo

Are you a Dell|EMC employee or service enabled partner?

If so, the procedure is in SolVe. If you are a customer, this activity is not customer executable. As for the reset.py, you never use that on a VxRail running on Poweredge. In addition, the reset.py is not supported for use on systems that have been upgraded and support for reset is being deprecated.

In Solve, i wonder that reset.py script is only supported for Quanta model.

but it does possibly work out for Dell model.

I think it doesn't hurt to try, don't you?

Please do not use a script designed for Quanta on a DELL server. It will only cause you problems if it even starts to run.

OK folks I got it loud and clear . I am not using the script.

@giadarola

I don't understand why that activity would not be customer executable. We need to be able to troubleshoot our own nodes, and Dell needs to understand that.

Just in case it is of any use to someone else, here's the procedure:

  • Restart the server

  • Boot to BOOT Manager by pressing F11

  • Choose One time Boot Option

  • Choose IDSDM from the SD card

  • The RASR application will load

  • Press 1 to reset to factory settings

  • Press Y to agree

  • The application will reinitialize the system and will take about 10 minutes

  • Press N to skip returning to the main menu

  • Press Y to reboot the machine and complete the installation

  • During the ESXi installation, the system will warn you about not having an IP from the DHCP server

  • Press ENTER to accept that the system doesn’t have a DHCP address

  • Press ENTER when told about the 60 day Evaluation License

It is an EMC Restricted procedure and should not be shared publicly.

Kindly remove the steps from this post as this is a restricted procedure and not to be shared outside of SolVe access.

Hi Pablo,

The procedure is simple but if executed without proper planing it can lead to disaster.

We are simply trying to prevent "unhappy customer".

If you know what you are doing and not willing to blame the vendor for the consequences, go ahead and do it.
