Introduction

EMC VPLEX with GeoSynchronyRelease Note defines IT nexus as follows.

A combination of host initiator and VPLEX front-end target port.

On the other hand, Configuration limits table in the same document has below objects in which “IT nexus” is used not only for front-end but also for back-end.

·         IT nexus per back-end port

·         LUNs exported through each IT nexus on VPLEX back-end

It confuses lots of users. What exactly does “IT nexus” mean?

Detailed Information

IT nexus is a combination of initiator and target. However, the exact meaning is different when it is used for “front-end” from used for “back-end”.

IT nexus per front-end port: combination of initiator (HBA port) and target (VPLEX front-end port)

IT nexus per back-end port: combination of initiator (VPLEX back-end port) and target (Storage array front-end port)
