Vplex Metro

Can you please explain the difference between the metro configurations with vplex witness and without witness? Detach rule and Winner. It is confusing. Let's say if we have detached rule set on cluster 1 and if cluster 1 fails, what will happen? Let's say if we have winner for cluster 2 and what if cluster 2 files?

Thanks,

RR

The Witness will override any rules you set if it finds it appropriate. So in your scenario if the detach rule is "cluster-1 detaches" and cluster 1 fails, the I/O will be suspended. If you have a CWS (cluster witness server) the rule would be overridden if cluster-2 was still available, so I/O would continue there.

In combination with stretched clusters and PowerPath(/VE) and cross-connect (if applicable) you could have a solution that keeps on running I/O even if an entire cluster would fail.

Note that the CWS will only work on consistency groups so volumes would need to be placed in those, and appropriate rules set.
