Removing one of two arrays behind a VPLEX

What is the approved methodology for removing the meta-volume mirrors when using VPLEX for an array migration with only one array present?

I can attach the new array to the fabric and point it at VPLEX.  Then I can present some new meta-volume mirrors from the new array.  However it seems that when I try to drop the last mirror off of the outgoing array I get an error (because VPLEX expects to have a meta-volume mirror on each array).

I notice there is a force flag for meta-volume detach-mirror but not sure if this is what I need. It seems to relate to the "discard data" flag, and I don't really know what that does either.

I suppose I can just unplug the array and then remove the broken non-existent mirror at that point, but this seems like a pretty ugly solution overall.

Hi raid-zero.

If you need to remove the discarded mirror from VPLEX control as part of decommissioning one of the 2 underlying arrays in a Metro, but want to ensure that the detached device is a consistent copy of the original data just so that you might decide to rollback your change, you will exclude the "--discard" option in VPlexcli while detaching the mirror.

I believe the force flag should let you remove the mirror.

regards.

Thanks for the info.  When we went back for round 2, we were able to detach the remaining mirror without issue.  I'm not sure if originally the team had tried to move instead of detaching, or perhaps something else changed in the environment.

In any event, after attaching two additional mirrors from the new array, we were able to drop the old mirrors and things are well and good.
