Expand a Vplex LUN

We have identical VNX boxes in both primary and DR sites. LUNs are presented to host through vplex. A LUN is configured through vplex on primary site and DR site. I need to expand this LUN but not sure if I increase from VNX, what will be the impact on vplex and production server. Host OS is MS Windows 2012 R2. Kindly let me know the procedure to extend the LUN without any impact on production

Hi,

Ankur Patel posted this a week ago.  He walks through the process of expanding VPLEX volumes.  I hope this helps.

Expand the LUN on both back-end arrays (VNX)

Rediscover the array in VPLEX

NOTE* If it is a replicated Virtual Volume you MUST remove the Replication set from the Recoverpoint CG and then remove the volume from the Recoverpoint Storage Views in both VPLEX  LOCALS.

At this point you can go to Virtual Volumes in VPLEX and sort by "expandable by" column.

Select the Virtual Volume and select expand at the bottom of the menu.

Once you expand the volume in VPLEX, you then go to the host side disk management screen and do a rescan of devices.

Select the device you have expanded and right click on the volume and select expand disk.  You should have unallocated disk space available to add and once you add the additional space in the expansion wizard you complete it.

YOU ARE DONE.  You will have to go back and setup replication in recoverpoint but that is how you would expand a virtual volume in VPLEX Local.

This worked as explained and was very helpful during a VMAX to XIO migration, time critical window. ... This would have been a disaster re-creating the entire distributed device. Thanks Ankur!
