DR/COB test plan
Hi What kind of DR/COB plans are used for vplex metro ? I was asked to prepare COB/DR plan and I wonder what is general approach. I was preparing earlier that kind of docs for different applications, services etc and there were a lot of manual tasks and steps involved, but here in case of Vplex metro it seems that all works automatically so COB plan before/after is actually only testing availability before/after and no direct intervention is required. Is that correct ? What are your experiences in terms of DR/COB tests ? I mean, actually if hosts are cross connected to both sites and general best practices are followed for cross-cluster hosts there is not much to do as all works automatically, powerpath takes care access to data for distributed devices. Even for local devices if any host based clustering solution is in place or replication/etc on array level data is available on site 2 and can be accessed by hosts even if site 1 is lost. Your timing is perfect, I just went through testing and documentation for VPLEX Metro 2 weeks ago . The basic idea behind our documentation is to break things down into planned and unplanned recovery scenarios and it worked really well so that would be my recommendation to you.
The documentation itself is more application specific than anything else, although we do cover what to look out for on the infrastructure side. For instance, we outlined the reconfiguration of the backups in the event we lose (unplanned) or shutdown (planned) one of the clusters. As for the cluster shutdown procedure, we just followed the procedure generated by using the SolVe Desktop but made recommendations on pre-checks before pulling the trigger.
