Discovered storage volumes

Hi,

We just turned on our VPlex Metro and are looking at step 1: for certain servers currently using HDS storage, putting the VPlex between the servers and the HDS.

We would like to prepare as much as possible before the day we actually connect the servers to the VPlex, with the HDS behind it. We have seen that by doing an "array rediscover" we can see the masked LUNs as unclaimed in the CLI and GUI. Thus, having the LUN IDs (VPD) we can script the claiming, extent/device/virt.vol. creation, storage view bit etc. etc.

My question is this: can we be sure there is no danger to the data on LUNs still used by the servers (directly on the HDS) which are have also been

discovered, but NOT claimed, on the VPlex?

Thanks in advance,

Alastair

Discovered luns are just what is seen by vplex through masking. VPLEX does not control them until they are claimed so you are ok.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick answer. I'm glad this approach sounds OK.
