Vostro 3470, need better monitor

Hi,

I had bought the Dell Vostro 3470 Desktop PC last year and have been using it at home. Till recently, I rarely used it myself, but recently when I needed to (as my own personal laptop was given for repairs) I observed that I am not able to work on this Dell PC which was shipped with a 19" standard monitor. Despite adjusting the brightness and contrast controls on the monitor, it still strains my eyes when I use it for an hour or more.

Would like to replace the monitor (which is a standard 1366 x 768 resolution one, model E1916HV) with a monitor which will reduce eye-strain and also let me watch videos/multimedia (even a movie). Seek suggestions on good options (under INR 15000 or USD 200). Will consider all reputed brands, not just Dell ones. Thanks !

Cheers

Ramesh

Higher than Full HD  (1080p)1920 x 1080 looks microscopic even on 30 inch monitors. More Resolution requires Display Port and GPU

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/technologies/4k/

1440P 2560 x 1,440
4K 4096 x 2160
UHD 3840 x 2160

5K requires DUAL Display port

Dell UltraSharp UP2715K is a 27-inch  5K or 5120 x 2,880

Optimal Resolution
5120 x 2880 at 60 Hz (Dual DP cable required)
3840 x 2160 at 60Hz ( single DP cable required)

Thats why I use Lower Resolution

(Super Video Graphics Array) SVGA 800 x 600
( 720i/p) HDTV 1280 x 720
(Extended Graphics Array) XGA 1024 x 768
(Wide Extended Graphics Array) WXGA 1366 x 768
(Super Extended Graphics Array) SXGA 1280 x 1024
(Super Extended Graphics Array+) SXGA+ 1400 x 1050
(Wide Super Extended Graphics Array) WSXGA 1600 x 1024
(Wide Super Extended Graphics Array+) WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050
(High Definition Television 1080i/p) HDTV 1920 x 1080

Dell desktop computers do not come with monitors. They are optional add-ons now. You can but whatever monitor you want but consider the video card you have first. If you have integrated video, consider buying a discrete video card that would run a better monitor. If you want to keep the integrated video, make sure a monitor you buy has compatible connections.

Most larger monitors are

Native Resolution
Full HD (1080p) 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz

I use Dell P2411H  set at 1280 x 1024 Resolution.

Hi Mary,

Yes, many years ago, Dell did allow buyers to configure their Desktop PC before purchase through their website, where one could choose each individual component, like processor, HDD, RAM, Graphics Card, monitor, and even OS. But, that's been discontinued few years ago, at least here in India. So, I chose this Dell Vostro 3470 Desktop PC among other choices from their website last year. So, yes, it did ship with the standard 19" monitor as listed.

I've observed that whenever I work on this PC for over an hour or so, my eyes strain a lot, unlike when I work on my laptop with 15.6" screen. Hence, a friend suggested I consider replacing my monitor on the Desktop PC with one with higher resolution (and some come with new proprietory tech to reduce eye-strain) of 1980x1080 or higher. My PC has integrated Intel 630 GPU, so not sure which higher-res monitor I can buy, hence sought advise here.

@speedstep

Thanks for your suggestion. My Dell Vostro 3470 Desktop PC has integrated Intel 630 GPU, so want to know which is the highest resolution monitor I can opt for. I am okay with a 22"- 24" monitor not larger. Thanks !

@speedstep   So, as I understand from your posts, if I need to work on text and sometimes on video, a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 should suffice (with my integrated/onboard Intel 630 GPU, which also shares system RAM, thereby making less RAM available for other tasks). Seems there are plenty of options in various brands in Full HD resolution monitors, some with added features like flicker-free, anti-glare, & 'eye-care' tech, though I donno how much these are real and not marketing hype ! Anyway, thanks for your inputs.
