My Dell keyboard stopped working yesterday

I spent the whole day trying to correct the problem using my Vostro machine, to no avail. I also tried to use the keyboard in my wife's computer (an Inspiron) without success. Today I went to a friend's computer (which is not a Dell) and the keyboard worked without a problem.

Windows feature updates tend to break USB drivers. Malware with Realtek certificates can also cause the issue.

This issue can be caused if any of the following situations exist:
  • The currently loaded USB driver has become unstable or corrupt
  • Your PC requires an update for issues that may conflict with a USB devices and Windows
  • Windows may be missing other important updates hardware or software issues
  • Your USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt via malware
  • Your PC motherboard may need replacement.

Clean install with current windows updates to 1903 resolves the issue.
