Yes, you can upgrade your Vostro to an i5 processor.

What is the model of old vostro?
very slow pc may not all of a sudden accelerate well with i5 upgrade from i3.
if not yet done try a small 2.5” ssd upgrade from hdd and do a clean OS install on the ssd. also upgrade memory to at least 8GB
