Dell Vostro 3668 RAM Upgrade
Vostro 3668
Hey, I'm trying to upgrade my Vostro 3668's RAM to 16GB right now it has a 4 GB Hynix one in it. I bought a Crucial Basics Single Channel 16GB DDR4-2666MHz RAM to replace it, but the computer doesn't work well with it. It keeps shutting down randomly and repeats this. When I plug the old 4GB RAM in, the devşce works without any problems. I bought the Crucial Stick because on this forum it was recommended to use a Crucial Stick. I will be more than happy if you guys can help me.
Thanks.

OK, this is going to be a bit confusing. Dell specs state that 64GB is the maximum compatible RAM. BUT Crucial, Timetec, Memory Stock, and Kingston all list 16GB (2 x 8GB) as the maximum compatible amount. So somewhere along the line the specs from Dell or all the other manufacturers (who all agree) is wrong.
Possibly a moderator or @redxps630 can jump in here if they have additional information.

Dell oem ram for 3668
DIMM, 4GB, 2X2G, 2400, DDR4, NU
8GB 2x4GB DDR4 2400MHz Memory
8GB (1X8GB) DDR4, 2400MHz; upto 32GB (additionalmemorysold separately)
M0VW4 8GB,DDR4,2400MHz,1RX8 =
Hynix HMA81GU6AFR8N-UH, HMA81GU6CJR8N-UH
Kingston KM0VW4-MIB, KM0VW4-MID, KM0VW4-MIE, KM0VW4-MIH
Micron MTA8ATF1G64AZ-2G3B1, MTA8ATF1G64AZ-2G3E1
Samsung M378A1K43BB2-CRC, M378A1K43CB2-CRC
you can buy two of above Dell oem ram (not directly from Dell, from third party using memory maker model number) to reach 16 GB. this has the advantage of dual channel too compared to single 1x16 GB.
3668 users validated 2x8GB = 16 GB.
example: two of Hynix HMA81GU6AFR8N-UH 16GB (top Dell oem ram)
or combination of two 8 GB of different model (many are Dell oem ram)

Hello, on a previous post I made about purchasing the RAM here: https://www.dell.com/community/Vostro-Desktops/Dell-Vostro-3668-RAM-Upgrade/m-p/8352027#M5745
You told me that I need to use a Crucial stick and now you are saying I need to go with Dell OEM RAM. Is this a joke or something? Now, I spent 1000 liras on something that doesn't even work on my computer. If you were not sure about the correction of the information, you could have called @redxps630 on the previous post, because that is how you maintain a community, you help people with the best information you can give to them. People like me are not familiar with these Dell Desktop Computers and need help from experts like you guys. Honestly, I just went ahead and believed you thinking you were correct, and now I'm completely disappointed. Thanks a lot for your help!

you have a Dell 4 GB oem from Hynix. It is probably Dell GTWW1 which is offered on this model.
8GB 2x4GB DDR4 2400MHz Memory
here is a list of memory maker model for this oem ram.Dell GTWW1
It seems you intend to pair a Hynix 8 GB with this Dell oem Hynix 4 GB to reach a total of 12 GB.
the following are some of the popular user validated 12GB ram config in 3668
#1 and # 4 are two hynix: HMA81GU6AFR8N-UH (8GB) + HMA851U6AFR6N-UH or HMA851U6CJR6N-UH (4GB) 12GB. so if we could verify that your current oem 4 GB is GTWW1 Hynix, which would be either HMA851U6AFR6N or HMA851U6CJR6N, then you can add another Hynix 8GB HMA81GU6AFR8N-UH. this combination is validated in 3668.

can I go ahead and buy a Hynix 8 GB RAM that you listed here and combine that with the RAM that originally came with my machine (a 4 GB Hynix) and use it that way?

not sure. there are a small number of 1x16 GB or 2x16 GB validated in 3668.
8GB + 16GB
