Dell Vostro 3020 MT i7-13700

Hi,

I'm trying to add a discrete GPU, an AMD Radeon Pro W6400 4GB GDDR6 (50 Watt max consumption)

Problem is the PC turns on and gets stuck on DELL logo when connected to the AMD card. Doesn't even try to boot the OS. If I connect the monitor to the iGPU (with the discrete card plugged in) it boots normally but the AMD card is not shown in Device Manager.

BIOS is updated to the latest version

Also the card was tested on another Dell machine (different specs overall) and works ok

Any clues?

Thank you

The specs call for a minimum 350W PSU. I have to believe that with that i7 you do not have the 180W PSU but can you confirm that you have one of the larger PSU in your system? Also with the 6400 plugged into the top x16 PCIe slot does the fan run when the system is turned on? Also in the BIOS is Primary Video Display set to auto?

My Vostro came with the 180W PSU.

The AMD card is getting power and the fan is spinning.

Funny thing is I have video output and can navigate through the BIOS (and the card is identified in hardware list in BIOS). I also changed the Primary Video Display to discrete GPU instead of Auto. When I exit BIOS it gets stuck to DELL logo.

I think if it was a matter of PSU wattage it would give some sort of BIOS warning message or not give output signal at all.

@CostasD

If secure boot is turned on, and it's not a Dell OEM card, you may have to disable secure boot on the system in order to boot the desktop with the card installed.

GPU's don't take max power all of the time.  BIOS won't max out a 50w card.

Tried your suggestions, no luck.

Finally I returned it and ordered a different model with higher PSU wattage and the option to add discrete GPU which was stated explicitly. Everything went well, thank you for your answers!
