Virtualizing oracle with VMAX
We are planning to virtualize our existing oracle database farm using VMware and vmax3 array ( Combination of SSDs and 15k HDDs). With vmax3 storage being virtually provisioned and performance levels guaranteed through use of SLO containers, how should one plan to size the database on the vmax 3 when there is cache available as well per engine approx 2TB/engine ?
For example
Database Size: 1TB
IOPS requirement: 100,000
R/W: 80/20
Workgroup: 5% = 50GB
Also from the virtualization and DB perspective, is there a best practice on LUN sizes, No of LUNs per datastore, VMs sharing datastores etc for DB configuration ( Data files, Redo logs, FRA etc).
Found this post on community Best practice for VMware LUN size
but couldn't conclude anything on the recommendations or best practice.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
