No option to create STD or VDEV in Unisphere for VMAX
Hi,
I want to create some STD and VDEV volumes on VMAX10K. As per Unisphere documentation (Storage Mgmt -> Volume Config -> Creating regular volumes) I should see an option to create "Regular" volumes which does not appear in Unisphere. I only have Virtual, Private and Template as the 3 Volume Type options in the Create Volume dialogue. Virtual has TDEV and TDEV-BCV options. Private has DATA, Gatekeeper and Virtual Gatekeeper as options.
Is this related to the version of VMAX or the license? Or does this require me create some kind of pool just like thin devices only after which these options show up? I cannot find any documentation related to this. Any hints would help. Thanks!

Yeah the 10K does not support traditional thick devices nor does it support TimeFinder/Snap so no VDEVs either.

You really don't want to mix them in the same system anyway. You could end up with different amounts of TDAT capacity in the pool, and that would undo the balance VP provides on the backend.

10K only supports VP snaps and not traditional Snaps, hence no Vdevs

I thought VMAX10k did not support traditional “raid” devices, virtual (TDEV) devices only.

Yes, the VMAX 10K does not support "thick" or traditional volumes, with the exception of gatekeepers.

Thanks for the response guys. Can you confirm if VMAX 20K supports all of the following:
1. Creating STD (thick) devices (not just gatekeepers) - 2-way-mirrors and RAID devices
2. TimeFinder/Snap and VDEV devices
3. TimeFinder/Clone
4. TimeFinder/Mirror (emulation via TF/Clone?)
5. SRDF

Yes, the VMAX 20K and 40K support those, as well as VP Snaps with the correct code levels
True Timefinder Mirror was never supprted on any VMAX.

TimeFinder/Clone Emulation mode (Timefinder/Clone operations executed using symmir commands) is supported last I saw on the 20K.
