FATAL SYSTEM ERROR (cant turn on computer)

I restarted my computer today. A big blue screen came up that said this....

"STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process System Process has been terminated
unexpectedly with a status of Oxc0000096 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down."

I shut it down multiple times and this screen is all I could get. I tried pressing F5 remembering that it did something. I found an option saying "Go back to last known settings"... All I got was a blank black screen instaid of my blue error screen. I restarted again and tried an option saying "Debugging Mode" and I at least got to my login screen!

I guess im still in "Debugging Mode". I'm afraid to restart my computer or touch it for that matter haha. I'm just gonna leave this page up please give me any response possible.


As a side note, I had a virus about a week ago that you guys helped me get rid of with Hijack This. The way that error message is worded, is it possible that a wrong file was deleted, or do you think this is the same virus? I looked at that old thread to see what was removed and nothing was removed but basically junk nothing vital was deleted. You were not infective back then.

That bluescreen is not related to malware in my opinion.

I suggest, that you post this problem in the Windows/Other Software forum.

I don't understand anything that site is talking about but I did see the words "Dr. Watson" mentioned... Thats the program I had a problem with on HiJack This. I still don't know what I should do.

Welcome back. :)
Let's see if we can review your posts and come up with a way to fix that computer.

It looks as if you had troubles prior to posting your Hijackthis log:
"Last week I started getting Error Report messages on nearly every program I run... When I first logon, my usual McAfee screen comes up telling me I need to renew it, now I get an Error Report that pops up with it... When I open internet explorer, it completly crashes and has another error report. (the only way I can get on interent is FireFox)

In your log I don't see the "virus" that you are referring to. Do you recall its name? Nothing that you were advised to do in the thread that you provided a link to would have caused your current problem. It appears that your update to IE7 contributed to some issues for you though.
You did not follow-up on your promise to continue in your Hijackthis topic, so your helper can only assume that you received no new error messages:
"Okay okay jeez, i'll install the new Java haha.

But the error messsage is really messing with me now, it only happens occasionally. I can't get it to come up again. As soon as it does though i'll be back here posting it word for word."

Updating Java is necessary. Running older versions leaves your system vulnerable to infection. In addition, it is possible that you may be running Java code in your applications that absolutely require a specific version of the JRE to run. We have no proof that you updated because you did not post a new log in your reply to the analyst who was helping you.

Where can we go from here? Perhaps you could try a clean boot to check if your new error is due to memory module or an application:

When you get to the section on the registry, please note:

If troubleshooting these problems isn't your cup of tea, there is no shame in taking your computer to a repair shop -- not a "big box" store.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can get your problem resolved one way or another.
