Vipr Controller issue with support for Solutions Enabler rev 9.0 and VMAX AFA Microde 5978
This message is for customer's that have Vipr Controller, a VMAX All Flash Array, and are considering upgrading to the latest microcode rev (5978) and Solutions Enabler 9.0...The ask is to wait for the next release of Vipr Controller (3.6.2) which will support these revs.

ViPR Controller: REQUIRED Upgrade to ViPR Controller 3.6.2 and Solutions Enabler 9.0 for VMAX All Flash Array microcode 5978 (Elm) support. Affected products: ViPR Controller < 3.6.2.0 VMAX All Flash Array models 250F/450F/850F/950F with microcode version 5978 In a VMAX All Flash Array environment (models VMAX 250F/450F/850F/950F), existing storage group Service Level Objective ‘Diamond’ with any workload (OLTP/OLTP_REP/DSS/DSS_REP) prior to an upgrade to microcode 5978 will automatically be converted to Service Level ‘Diamond’ (without any workload) after an upgrade to microcode 5978. |
ViPR Controller pre-3.6.2 versions do not currently support VMAX All Flash Array models 250F/450F/850F/950F with microcode 5978 and its prerequisite Solutions Enabler (SE) version 9.0 as detailed in the "EMC ViPR Controller 3.6.1 Support Matrix". Always consult the latest support matrix to verify current version support. |

ViPR Controller REQUIRES an upgrade to 3.6.2 as well as Solutions Enabler 9.0 (per support matrix) to avoid the issue with VMAX All Flash Array microcode upgrades to 5978. Please refer to the "EMC ViPR Controller Version 3.6 Service Pack 2 Release Notes" for details on the required upgrade sequence for ViPR Controller, Solution Enabler, and microcode upgrades |
