Initiator does not have any initiator paths

Hello

We have Unity 380, software version 5.3.0.0.5.120.

Everything looks correct, all cables connected and green on the system overview - enclosures; but when looking at the initiators tab, it shows 2 of our servers have 1 good connection, and 1 in error (see below).  Even though the overall condition of the hosts is good.

We have 2 SAN switches linked, and it looks like the secondary switch is the 1 with the error.

Is this an error, or is this just because the second link is a backup?

Thanks in advance,

Michael.

Hi,

Thank you for your question.

Yes, that is how it should work with it failing to the secondary if there is a problem.

Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

Looking through some of the other posts, I came across the KB000052550.

This isn't my answer, but it highlights, "Dell EMC Unity discovers all the hosts zoned in the fabric configuration and their initiators automatically."

Our switch fabric has 2 zones, 1 on each switch, and only the primary switch zone is active.  I would imagine that if the primary switch changes, the initiators would also change.

Is this correct?

Thanks,

Michael.

Sorry,

I think I know the answer to this, but want to make sure.

If 1 link fails, do the switches do an automatic failover?

It makes sense in my mind if they did, but as I've had not training/ or experience with this kit, I just want to make sure (years of begging finally paid off).

Thanks again for your support.

Best regards,

Michael.
