Venue 11 Pro 7130 dead

I fell asleep this week listening to google play music with the tablet plugged in.

The next morning it would not turn on although the white power light was lit.  I left it plugged in and tried again later, took the battery out reseated it, tried to power it with the batter in, battery out, no good.  No response whatsoever.

However since the first day after its death, the white power led on the tablet no longer lights.

The charger seems to work, it has its own white led lit and it can power other tablets and phones.  I have used a different charger lead.  Still no joy.

Should the tablet be able to work without a battery in it if it is given the right juice?

Are these power supplies known to fade?  The battery seemed pretty good considering it is 18 months old, I was still getting 4-5 hours or more and no warnings.

Is there anything I can do to prove if it is the battery, the PSU or the tablet which has failed?

cheers,

C

Hi CAM,

I had a similar problem last year which was related to the charger - I replaced the cord with one that was more durable and able to deliver more charge.

There does seem to be some challenges with the CMOS battery - and from what I experienced would say that if the power gets to a critical level, the cord of the standard charger does not have enough ability to deliver charge needed to resupply the 'mostly dead' CMOS.  I had to leave mine plugged in and turned off for over 24 hours before it began functioning again, even with the more robust cord.

If your system is still under warranty, let Dell make repairs - if it is the battery, the work they can do to resolve that system issue may prevent a repeat of what you're seeing now.
