Retrieve Idrac7 Enterprise licence on second hand T320

Hi.

I bought a secondhand T320 last year with no OS. It did come with an Idrac7 Enterprise card.

How do i work out if the license was ever purchased ?

If it was purchased then i need to know how to retrieve that license. But i don't have the previous owners details anymore.

Thanks Glenn

If the system ships with an iDRAC Enterprise the license was already installed within the factory. This is how it works in the Dell universe ALL THE YEARS and was different compared to HPE ILO where this feature was delivered as a additional license key printed on a letter.

So a Dell customer must export the license after receiving the server with help of iDRAC, racadm, ....  Because Mr. Customer never do this and when the license is lost than Dell support sends the license per mail again.

Since some years every customer gets an email with a registration code to unlock the license key within Dell Digital Locker when buying a new server. The license is bind to the STAG.

If you buy the license later, after the system left the factory, the license is delivered trough Digital Locker. You have to enter the STAG of your Server before downloading the license.

As long as the server is under Dell support and you have a maintenance contract life is easy. After that it depends .. .and it might work as long as you are the 1st. owner.  If you are the 2nd. one.. and there was never performed a STAG transfer youre lost in most cases.

If your server have the display ( i assume every dell RACK server have it except the 12 bay version, not sure about the Tower models) you can display the current IP configuration of the iDRAC and when the display isnt locked you can configure the IP of your iDRAC. Just press the middle button and use the arrows to navigate.

There is no need for shutdown the server to visting LCC... just use the Display and its self explained after 12sec. of thinking.

Joerg.

Im running Truenas on. My system can see it using ipmitool but that's at far as it gets. I was thinking as the license isn't applied i wont be able to access the IP. I cant access it via SSH/Telnet/GUI. It shows up in the BIOS. Im going to look at the LCC this afternoon to do some further research.

Thanks

Thankyou Joerg. Yes, im the second owner so there's a fair chance that if the license is in the LCC i should be ok. Ive messaged the original owner so i can perhaps get him to transfer details to me. Its an older T320.

Thanks again

If the license is present right now... there is a export button within the iDRAC Web GUI.  It the same button for import

If you have a "racadm(.exe)" somewhere installed:

racadm -r IDRAC_IP -u "root" -p "calvin" license export -f "myidrac.lic" -c idrac.embedded.1

If you execute racadm on the server it self and run it as administrator you can omit -r, -u, -p.  Drop a note if you cant get it working because iam not sure if it work on idrac6 in the same way as 8,9.

Regards,
Joerg
