Dell Server Update Utility V6.5.3--too big for a DVD
Dell just came out with the new Server Update Utility
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails?DriverId=JH8XC&FileId=2838124731
It's on 4 .iso's. The instructions say to concatenate the 4 files into a single .iso file, and then burn it to a DVD. However, the resulting .iso file is 6.14 GB, and none of our Dell servers can handle a DVD larger than the standard 4.7 GB.
How can we update our Dell servers with current drivers?

actually, the best method is to go get an 8GB usb key, extract the files from the ISO using an iso file extractor, then copy the files to the USB key and run it from there.

OK, thanks. Here's the next question. I now see that this is not a bootable .ISO, and it requires Windows Server to run.
All our Dell servers are running VMWare ESXi 5.0. What is the method for updating the BIOS on these machines?

you will need to purchase a Dual Layer DVD disk, and you system will burn the iso to that disk. if you have a DVD rom drive in your server, it is capable of reading Dual Layer media.

SUU can be used in conjuction with SBUU for firmware updates. Boot first to SBUU, select "update firmware", then, when prompted for the update repository, insert the SUU disk.

By SBUU you mean the "Dell Systems Build and Update Utility". OK. Thanks.

one can also use the repository manager to create a bootable iso that is essentially a bootable SUU that runs under linux. also, there is a method for creating a bootable USB key the same way. Here is a link to a video about RM, and a link for creating the bootable USB key. see Page 26 of the users guide.
