Windows Universal Application 4.6.0 A00

Hey there,

Regarding the referenced update file - the installation of this file is causing my Dell Support Assist program to have issues in searching for further updates.

The program initially finds the Windows Universal Application program and asks to install it.  After installation and retstart, upon the next search for updates, the program once again finds the SAME Windows Universal application file and says it needs to be installed.  Upon installation the second time, the Support assist program gives a "system busy, try later" message every time upon asking for an update search.  EVERY TIME!

In the update history section, it lists an ERROR in the list, for every time an update search was performed.

Removing and re-installing the Dell Support Assist program allows the program to search for updates.  Unfortunately, it finds the same WIndows Universal Application file and wants to download it.

There is SOMETHING WRONG with this file and it needs to be corrected before installation.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  I was able to FINALLY install that Windows Universal Application File manually, using the Dell website.  I then re-installed then Support Assist application.  Now when I check for updates using Support Assist, it does NOT see the Universal App file as a needed download anymore.

Thanks again.

Lately there is something wrong with everything downloaded from Dell updates!  I do not  think this app needs to be installed unless you develop apps from what I have just ready. I am tired of  having to  download every driver update manually for 3 pcs as  the dell site "is not working right now" For months.

Hi campfiresmoke:

There are other users currently seeing a "A task is currently in progress. Wait for the previous task to finish" error in SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 after Dell Update v4.6.0 was installed (see Vatsal Vakharia's 13-Aug-2022 SupportAssist Scan for Drivers Update Error for one example), and your post reminded me that the Known Issues section of the SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 release notes <here> state that driver scans in SupportAssist may not work correctly after Dell Update is installed or updated. This bug first appeared in SupportAssist v3.10.4.18 , and the only workaround suggested in the release notes is to "Reboot the system and retry".

I also seem to recall someone from Dell suggesting that users should reinstall SupportAssist if an install or update of Dell Command | Update / Dell Update for Windows Applications causes this glitch. In your case I assume the trick is to uninstall SupportAssist and then ensure that Dell Update is updated to the latest v4.6.0 (rel. 05-Aug-2022) before SupportAssist is reinstalled.

Just an FYI that when I launched my Dell Update for Windows Applications v4.5.0 on 12-Aug-2022 it offered to self-update to the v4.6.0 update (see image below). SupportAssist is normally disabled on my Inspiron 5584 but I launched SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 manually yesterday and confirmed that both the Get Drviers & Downloads and Scan Hardware scans still run correctly since my Dell Update for Windows Applications v4.5.0 self-updated to v4.6.0. You didn't mention your Windows OS or Dell computer model but I assume there is an appropriate standalone .exe installer for Dell Command | Update / Dell Update for Windows Applications v4.6.0 that you can download from the Dell support page for your computer model if you don't have Dell Update v4.6.0 yet.

Before you go to the bother of uninstalling SupportAssist, updating Dell Update to the latest version, and then reinstalling SupportAssist again there's one other possible workaround you might want to try. I always recommend that users with a Win 8.1 or higher OS should disable the Fast Startup power option (also known as hybrid boot-up / hybrid shutdown) as instructed in Option 1 of the TenForums tutorial How to Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10 and then re-boot their computer turn off this Windows feature. This power option is enabled by default but Fast Startup can interfere with the loading of services and drivers of third-party software at boot-up and cause unexpected problems, and Microsoft has acknowledged that Fast Startup can even interfere with Windows Update - see the MS support article Updates May Not Be Installed With Fast Startup in Windows 10. It's possible you have a pending update that requires proper shutdown of your OS before the installation can run to completion, and disabling Fast Startup and re-booting a few times might help with that.

Warning: After Fast Startup is disabled, your first system restart might be slow If you have Windows updates pending installation.  Be patient and allow the installation(s) to run to completion.

Hi campfiresmoke:

Just an FYI that I mentioned your workaround in Vatsal Vakaria's SupportAssist Scan for Drivers Update Error and they posted today that a manual install of Dell Update for Windows Universal v4.6.0 solved their problem.  Kudos to you for posting your solution.
