SupportAssist does not run properly

I can run 'Get drivers & downloads', 'Scan hardware',....separately and individually and all is well. If I try to 'Run all' then the procedure does not complete, and I get an error message.

'An unexpected error occurred
A task is currently in progress. Wait for the previous task to finish.'

The latest version tries to run some of the checks in parallel. It doesn't work!

According to 'About', my 'SupportAssist is up to date. Version: 3.11.4.29'.

I have a Latitude 7520. I am using the latest version of Windows 11 Pro (Version 21H2, OS build 22000.778, Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.778.0).

So I finally fixed my problem.

I logged into the dell support page,

selected my laptop,

selected "Drivers & Downloads"

selected "Manually find a specific driver for your [computer name]"

under "This Device" tab, I manually downloaded and installed:

'Alienware Command Center Application',

'Dell Update/Alienware Update Universal Application'

and 'Realtek High Definition Audio Driver'.

I only did this because I figured SupportAssist wasnt updating drivers anyway, so I might aswell manually download the latest drivers etc.

I'm not sure which of those was the game changer, but my guess, It wasn't the Audio driver.

after a restart, SupportAssist booted up fine and works perfectly now.

hope that might help someone.

IMO, SupportAssist (SA) isn't worth the space it takes on our SSD. It's too bad, as Dell has obviously invested resource in it.

> It fails to recognize updates unless they were applied through SuportAssist or Dell Update.

> Driver versions are often not in sync (or preceded by a 0) with true version numbers.

> It lags recommended (even "Urgent") driver updates (when manually checking against a service tag) by weeks or more.

> Updates through SA often fail!

> The desktop app is heavy-handed, over-reaching, and poorly documented. For example, if we click on Get Support --> Open a Support Request, it launches into Hardware scans, cleansing files, tuning performance, and "optimizing the network (updating my settings without a prompt in the process). Who in their right mind wants this???

Dell seems to be saying "don't worry your little end-user heads about this - we know what's best, and will impose it upon you, like it or not".

Sounds like you are a huge fan. Me too!

I have the same issue on my Alienware x15 R1.

the “get drivers and downloads” fails saying “an unexpected error occurred” and clicking “run all” just freezes at preparing. But each other section works individually. Using the driver check on the dell support webpage fails too.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling SupportAssist. Even updated the .Net framework as I seen that can be an issue relating to some SupportAssist issues in the past.

SupportAssist version 3.11.4.29

Operating on Windows 11

The problem resolved itself. I tried working with Dell Technical Support. They offered several solutions. They took up a lot of my time. None of them worked.

I'm having the exact same issue with my Desktop Alienware R10 PC. have you found a solution to this yet? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times and even contacted dell support...they gave me instructions on how to do a "full" uninstall with admin rights and reinstall with msi and msp files and im just right back where i started after doing that, no change.
