Support Assist notifications

I recently had a open service request. The request should be closed but like every hour or so Support Assist pops up and ask.

Looking for help with Support request  ? Even with the ticket closed it keeps asking. Also when I open Support Assist program it pops up asking also. I hope these images show. The my desktop screenshot may look funny because I have dual monitors one is slightly smaller. How do I stop this from asking?

Also the startup diagnostics at the Dell Logo not in Windows. Is there a way to clear the History? I had a non Dell drive connected and the drive was bad. When I booted in Windows Support Assist went crazy telling me a bad drive bla bla bla. I don't know what happened but all of a sudden I was notified I was being sent a new drive.

This was not even a drive sent from Dell it was actually a 4 TB at one time it was external but I took it apart. And took the drive out. I just want to know how do I clear the ePSA diagnostic log?

For some reason I am unable to edit my own above post. Whoever said this Forum had problems is right.

But here is a screenshot of the ePSA where it shows the error. Again the drive is not even from Dell and the knot heads in support should have known they didn't even send a 4 TB they sent a 1 TB. But it shows 4 TB failed. The knot heads should have known I did not order that drive from Dell.

These are the logs in the ePSA nothing in Windows will clear the logs. I need to clear the ePSA logs.

Perhaps this article can help: https://www.dell.com/community/Precision-Fixed-Workstations/Clearing-the-ePSA-Event-Log/td-p/7633818

I don't think clearing the logs is going to help if the problem is not fixed. We can't see your pictures yet, but if the problem is your hard drive then replacing it should clear the log.

@Vic384

Thanks for the help those links you sent the person said they booted to a ubuntu live CD/USB. I have never been able to boot to a live ubuntu or any live CD/USB.

Do you see my images? I uploaded several images of the screen I am talking about.

@DELL-Cares

Sent a PM that said the images were not showing. I am getting frustrated with this. What is the point in posting images if they are not gonna show?

I was told to upload to another source. I am sorry I do not have another source.

The problem was not the 1 TB that came shipped with Dell. It was a 4 TB drive I already owned before I even purchased this system.

I put the drive in this system so I could have more storage. But found out the drive was bad.

As for you not seeing my images.

This Forum more problems than a squirrel on an 8 lane highway.

I don't think ePSA cares whose drive it is, the diagnostic found a bad drive. I am not sure, but I think that in order to clear the error the drive needs to be replaced and the diagnostic run again. Some diagnostic tests do not save a permanent record of errors but apparently, Dell's ePSA does.

As for your images, the moderator has to approve your images before others can see them, until then only you will be able to see them.

To boot to Ubuntu, you have to put in on a USB memory stick or CD/DVD. You then have to insert the USB stick into a USB port or the CD/DVD into the CD/DVD drive BEFORE you boot your computer. If you have a UEFI BIOS, boot the computer by pressing the F12 key and select the USB drive or CD/DVD drive as the boot device from the F12 Boot Menu that appears.

@Vic384

I will try again tomorrow to boot to a Ubuntu. I had an issue before my system seems to not like any kind of live environment media. I tried to use Hirens before and there is a post here somewhere about it and I was never able to boot to any live media.

@Vic384

I just tried ubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64 . I could only see my 1 TB drive from the live Ubuntu.

That could be because it is set up in RAID? I don't know much about RAID this system came from Dell set up like that.

@Vic384

Sorry to keep tagging you. I am unable to edit my post for some reason. So here is the latest. I got this PM I guess it was from @DELL-Cares

=====================================================================================

Sadly only by replacing the motherboard you will be able to clear all the
history of failures from ePSA.

Apologize for the whole confusion, we thought the error code was related to the 1 TB that came installed on this system.

From our side there is no further steps that we can recommend in order to clear this errors other than the replacement.

Apologize for the inconvenience.

Kind regards,

====================================================================================

I know there are threads saying to use Linux CD or USB and use a command in Linux but I am confused what to type with the xxxxx and all. But the PM said the only way to clear it is to change the Motherboard.

I really don't believe that. I have a feeling this could be done maybe the jumper on the motherboard? I am not gonna mess with that until I research it more and find out for sure. Just wanted to post back Thanks for your help.

@CTG_8273 Regarding the xxxxx's, in the article I previously linked to there are links in the article. Two of those links: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/587196/cant-delete-uefi-variable-no-space-left-operation-not-permitted

and https://www.dell.com/community/SupportAssist-for-PCs/Clear-ePSA-Event-Log/m-p/7293408/highlight/true#M87806

shows where those numbers came from. The numbers represent the numbers at the end of the "DIAGEEPROM" UEFI variable. The Linux "ls -la /sys/firmware/efi/efivars --sort=size --reverse" command lists those variables. I am sorry I am not much help, this problem is unfamiliar to me, I am just trying to understand what the articles are saying.

By the way. I can see your images now.

Thanks for the reply I was told through a PM that the only way is to change the Motherboard. IDK at first whoever was sending g the PM's was saying to re flash my bios. They misunderstood I never saw my m,2 when booted to linux only my 1 TB.

I turned off RAID used ACHI and tried again and could see both drives and all the partitions on my m.2. I decided to leave it alone.

I got to thinking if you can clear those logs by messing with commands in Linux the logs are on the efi partition I assume.

I think there is more to it because if I deleted all the partitions that would clear everything. I think the logs could be stored on the motherboard the bios.

At first I was told they could be cleared in my BIOS but there is no option to clear any logs. On Dell systems there are ways but this XPS has no option. Looks like they could make a bios update they would add the feature.

I may be wrong, but it seems to me a simple test to determine whether the logs are in the BIOS/motherboard or on the EFI partition is to disconnect the drive with the EFI partition. If the ePSA error (log) goes away the log is on the EFI partition.

@Vic384

You have a good point. I will try tomorrow because it is a m.2 and I am too tired to tonight.

I hope you find the humor in that.
