Recommended Updates (View List) Not Displayed on Inspiron 15 5584 Support Page

For the past 2 or 3 weeks, almost every time I visit the Drivers & Downloads tab on the support page for my Dell 15 5584 Inspiron at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/inspiron-15-5584-laptop/drivers the list of recommended updates (i.e., View List) is not displayed.

What I should see ...

...  and here's what I've actually seen almost every day for the past few weeks.

Entering my Service Tag on the Overview tab of my support page finds the correct warranty information for my Inspiron 15 5584 but I still can't see the list of recommended updates.  Update checks with Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.0.0 appear to run correctly.

I don't have SupportAssist v3.x installed on my system, and several users in the SupportAssist for PCs board are reporting that they cannot install SupportAssist because they see an internet connection failure error (see DocRust's 23-Oct-2023 SupportAssist Installer Download failed due to no internet, but there is internet connectivity for one example).  I'm beginning to wonder if there is some connection between the two problems i.e., that the Drivers & Downloads tab of my Inspiron 15 5584 support page is failing to render correctly when it runs the auto-check to see if SupportAssist is installed for the blue "Check for Updates" button.

@garioch7 :

Thanks for the reply.  Good to know other users are also having problems viewing their list of recommended updates on the Dell support site.

One trick that does work for me if I can't "convince" the Dell site to show me "View List" is to select the only option to let Dell find updates automatically.  A long time ago, I removed SA and Dell Update, so I let it check to find out that SA is not installed.  Then I cancel the install, and after that cancels, I have the View List of Drivers option.

Your mileage may vary.  Good luck.  Have a great day.

Phil

Hi @garioch7 :

Thanks for the hint.  I tried that trick and it worked this morning.

I clicked the blue Check for Updates button and chose Cancel when it prompted me to install SupportAssist, and the list of recommended updates reappeared.  I also noticed that the name of that expandable section has changed (again) from "View List" to "Visit List

According to employee @DELL- Nat M's 25-Oct-2023 post in DocRusts's SupportAssist Installer Download failed due to no internet, but there is internet connectivity the internet connectivity problems with SupportAssist have been solved so Dell must have made changes to the HTML template for the Drivers & Downloads tab on their support site that's broken the "Visit List" feature.

I won't mark this topic as Solved until Dell releases a permanent fix so that users who don't have SupportAssist installed can still see the list of recommended updates on their support page without any tricks or workarounds.

Glad it worked for you.  It seems the Dell website/Forum "upgrade" is an unmitigated disaster.  Thanks for the explanation.  Have a great day.

Hi @garioch7 :

I've discovered a new problem.  Ever since I updated to Firefox v120.0.0 on 21-Nov-2023 that workaround has failed, even if I disable all my browser extensions.

When I browse to my Inspiron 5584 support page at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/inspiron-15-5584-laptop/drivers using Firefox and click on the blue Check for Updates button nothing happens.  It doesn't even check to see if SupportAssist is installed now, even if I refresh that web page multiple times.

The only good news is that if I browse to my support page using MS Edge v119.0.2151, click on the blue Check for Updates button and then click Cancel when it prompts me to install SupportAssist then my list of recommended updates will be displayed.  This works even if uBlock Origin and Malwarebytes Browser Guard are both enabled in MS Edge.

I primarily use Chrome and Edge for some sites.  Chrome is still working just fine.  I just did the driver check, and the workaround is working with the latest version of Chrome.  I, too, have uBlock Origin and MB Browser Guard.  I have never used Firefox, so I cannot comment.

It would be great if they would fix that Driver Listing bug!

Have a great day.

Phil

It's been six months and Dell has done nothing to fix this problem so I've posted about this in the New to Dell Community board at Cannot See Expandable "View List" of Recommended Software on Dell Support Site to see if I can get the attention of one of the Dell employees over there.
