Dell Command Update Not Working - Precision 7530

Precision 7530

Precision 7530

Hello,

I use Dell Command Updates all the time on our PC's as I am Tech Support.  However, I have a Precision 7530 that gives this weird "non error" error.  I uninstalled anything Dell related.  Rebooted.  Went back in to install the Application from the Manual Driver updates on the device page.  It finally installed successfully, but then when it runs, it presents this blank box.  Stupid non errorStupid non error

It also will not install Support Assist, it says that it is not available for a Non Dell PC, which is stupid because it is a Dell.  UGH - help please.  I hate these errors, because the Command Update app is great for updating our fleet of Dell PC's and saves a ton of time with hardware issues.  I don' have time to update these pc's via individual downloads, and updates.

Adding to this as I cannot get any of the drivers to manually install.  The firmware update gave this error:

"Could not find valid policy or resource payload"

It also errors on any other manual update.

.... I'm facing similar issue in my Precision 7770.

Hi @karthik316dta :

While you're waiting for a response from redhed100 could you please  post back and let us know what Windows operating system you use?  The version and OS build can be found at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications, or open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver.

If you have a 64-bit Win 10 or Win 11 OS try installing the Dell Command | Update Windows Universal Application v5.1.0 listed on the Precision 7700 support page *** at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/precision-17-7770-laptop/drivers.  Download and save the latest full offline installer (currently Dell-Command-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_JCVW3_WIN_5.1.0_A00.EXE, released 31-Oct-2023) to your desktop, right-click and choose "Run as Administrator".  Post back and tell us the exact error message you see if the installer will not run to completion.

If running the installer with Administrator rights doesn't work then open your Windows registry editor (open a Run dialog box and enter regedit) and browse to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Store and confirm that you have a registry entry for StoreContentModifier that shows that you have a Dell Precision laptop.  If you have recently reinstalled or repaired your Windows OS this registry key can sometimes be deleted, which prevents you from installing proprietary Dell applications like Dell Command | Update for Windows Universal - see Krishnendu Nov 2020 topic Dell Apps Incompatible in Microsoft Store for one example.

Here's an old image I captured in Nov 2020 that shows what I used to see in my Inspiron 15 5584 registry with Win 10 v1909 Build 18363.1198 (i.e., with both the OEMID and StoreContentModifier registry entries) ...

... and what I see now in Jan 2024 with Win 10 v22H2 Build 19045.3803 (i.e., StoreContentModifier only, no OEMID showing that Dell is the manufacturer).

If the StoreContentModifier registry entry does not have a value of Dell_Precision (which I'm guessing is what you should see for a Precision 7700 laptop) then view your System Information (open a Run dialog box and enter msinfo32) and confirm that your computer manufacturer and model are correctly identified.  From my Inspiron 15 5584:

*** NOTE: If you are unable to view the full list of recommended software and drivers on your Precision 7770 support page see the workaround garioch7 suggested in my Oct 2023 topic Recommended Updates (View List) Not Displayed on Inspiron 15 5584 Support Page.

Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.3803 * Firefox v121.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.23110.3-1.1.23110.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.6.6.294-1.0.2201 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.1.0 * My Dell v2.2.6.0

Hello @lmacri ,

I have 64-bit windows 10 OS. I will check with my IT team tomorrow to update the Latest Dell command update.

Also the storecontentmodifier value is Dell_Precision.

Thanks,
