Clean Files - Another Thread

Clean Files:

What does it do?

Where is the log?

Why *must* it be scheduled to also get scheduled driver update checks?

I would not even be down this road, but for another support issue, I *VERY* reluctantly allowed an agent to do remote control, and the first thing he did was open support assist and click this button, without asking me!  And then I had to fight for control to keep him from clicking Tune performance, etc...

Show your work:  There are other threads on this, that are either marked solved without a solution, or are older, so why not another one?

marked solved, so I'm guessing that means ignored:  https://www.dell.com/community/SupportAssist-for-PCs/Prevent-Automatic-Recycle-Bin-Emptying/td-p/7863851/highlight/true/page/4

Clean Files is a feature in Dell SupportAssist, a software tool that is pre-installed on Dell PCs. The feature is designed to remove unnecessary files and free up space on the hard drive. This includes files in the recycle bin, temporary files, and files in the download folder.

The log for the Clean Files feature can be found in the SupportAssist application. To access it, open SupportAssist, click on the "Maintenance" tab and then select "View Activity Logs".

It is recommended that the Clean Files feature be scheduled to run along with scheduled driver update checks because running the feature regularly can help maintain the performance and stability of the PC.

Regarding your concern about the remote agent that opened the SupportAssist and clicked on the Clean Files button without your permission, it is important to always be aware of the actions taken by any remote agent on your PC. It is also recommended that you adjust the settings of your SupportAssist to your preferences and disable the features you do not want to run automatically.

Regarding the other threads, it is possible that they were marked as solved without a solution, or they are old, but it is always a good idea to create a new thread in case there is new information or a new solution that can help.

You're right, I know what it is, I should've been more specific, "What does it do to my file system, Specifically?" The download folder and the recycle bin are NOT "unnecessary" in my world.

The log for the Clean Files feature can be found in the SupportAssist application. To access it, open SupportAssist, click on the "Maintenance" tab and then select "View Activity Logs".

There is no maintenance tab. How do I get the maintenance tab?

In the History tab, I find Recent activity.  But I still have no idea what was deleted.  According to this log, it deleted Windows Explorer.  And 678 other arbitrary files.

Thanks for the recommendation, I politely decline until you show what it deletes.  Please note my original request.

That is the most trite and unusable answer possible.  I WAS aware.  Any agent should 100% be clear about their moves,  If I hadn't been watching closely things could be way worse.

Awesome! Then maybe we'll get some answers!
