SRM Servers Name Change

Hello All.  We have six SRM Servers, which work in tandem as ViPR SRM Suite. Now, organization policy mandates us to rename them with the new naming convention. So, does the name change afffects anything with regard to the functioning of the ViPR SRM Suite.  Please advise.  Thanx.

Hello Bhuppi1,

You should be good to change the host names without any issues since the ip’s are staying the same. Here is a link to a kb that maybe in assistance if needing to change DNS. https://dell.to/4cQxR8h

@DELL-Sam L Hi Sam. By the way ,not only hostnames can be changed without any issues(as you already showed with that KB above),  IPs can also be changed. We moved entire 5 Servers(W2K12R2) into new 5 Servers(Windows Server 2022) and both setups are now running independently(even all the 5 Databases were migrated successfully including Master DB) and the new one has entire historical data intact as well.  We will decomm the original soon.   Thanks.

Hi. I believe, hostname change will impact the functioning of the entire SRM Suite. But , still not sure, as our Network Team keeps telling me that it should not have any affect as IPs are going to remain same. But, still, I feel it will have impact as I remember, in few collector logs, I do see hostname being referred, and at times IP being referred. Not exactly sure though.   BR.

You may need to change the hostname in server identification to match the new names. https://dell.to/3PVLJUV

@DELL-Josh Cr Thanks.  Are you sure this is that simple and can be taken care of easily.

I read this in SRM documentation:

- Assigning a different IP address and hostname is not allowed in SRM because the SolutionPacks are registered with the respective hostname and IP address, and do not work with a different IP configuration.(Our IP will not change, so not applicabel to us. Thinking ).

- Compliance and Topology databases cannot be moved and must be re-created in the new SRM environment. If the host names are changed, the master database cannot be migrated.(Is this also not applicable Thinking ).

Thank You.
