Hi Manuel,
Do you have the Business Dashboard installed already?
If not, you will need to install it first. You see the option to install the business dashboard as part of the Global Console install.
For example, the Linux install file for SAM 9.1 is called : setup-CONSOLE-9_1_0_0-linux.bin.
Pages 45 and 46 of the SAM installation guide (attached) has details on how to install the Business Dashboard.
Once installed, please follow the guidelines in the SAM Dashboard Config document (also attached) to configure the Business Dashboard.
Once completed, you should be able to access the Business Dashboard using the following URL :
http:// : /templates/sample1.html
Please find documents attached.
Please let me know if you have any additonal questions.
Kind Regards,
Paul O'Rourke

Hi Paul,
Many thanks for your prompt answer.
Could you also please explain what is the difference between Business Dashboard and Web Console?
I'm asking this because, at least during CONSOLE installation it asks for:
"
Please choose the type of Global Console installation:
1 - Global Console, Web Console, and Business Dashboard
[ ] 2 - Global Console
"
So I think there should be any kind of differentiation, no?
Thanks.
Br,
Manuel

Hi Manuel,
The web console displays the Global Console within a web browser. Therefore, once the web console installed, you can access the global console from any machine, without having to have the console gui installed on that machine.
As the business dashboard is built upon the web console, they are both installed at the same time.
The dashboard provides the user with views from the Global Console as individual components called dashboard viewlets, which are implemented as Java applets.
As well as displaying these viewlets, the business dashboard also allows the user to create and configure custom viewlets.
Sample viewlets are created during installation at: BASEDIR/smarts/tomcat/webapps/templates.
Kind Regards,

Hello Manuel,
The difference between the Web Console and the Business Dashboard is that the Web Console is a Jar file that is downloaded via an internet connection through your browser that give the user the same functionality as the Global Console. While the Business Dashboard is viewlets that can be integrated into portal pages to allow for specific views of the software. You would very hard pressed to tell the difference between the Web Console and the Global Console if you run them side by side. It isn't very clear from the documentation but if you the three excerpts on page 17 of the Dashboard configuration guide that Paul provided as well as reviewing page Page 32 and Page 50 from chapter 2 it help you understand the difference.
Depending on your network latencies and the work load of the different domains you may actually find that over a VPN connection the Web Console would seem more responsive than the Global Console. Also if you have a lot of users connecting via the Global Console you can cause some congestion and at times it may be wiser to use the Web Console and have the users all served out of it because every users request is served out of a single Web Console connection to each domain instead of each user having a their own unique connection to the domain, such as with the Global Console.
Please let us know if this answers your questions regarding the difference between the Web Console and the Business Dashboard.
Cheers,
Sean
