Hello-Upgrading to an ATA100 7200rpm Hard Drive/Controller Card would help improve performance a bit. A clean install of your operating system and applications on a drive like that would also be an improvement. Also, if you use your computer to mainly access the internet and check email, you probably will not notice much of a performance boost. However, if you run graphics or video editing applications, there should be a noticeable increase in performance.

I have a XPS R 400 and was planning on upgrading to 348 Mb RAM and to a faster processor. How much did you spend in the 128 Mb memory and in the processor? Could I go with a faster processor ? (I do have an original 60 gig Ultra ATA HD 7200 rpm).

Check this guy out:

He'll tell you all about upgrading your XPS R 450...Check out the PowerLeap 1.4 G CPU upgrade.
I did my XPS R 400 (with his help...thanks, Bob!) a few months ago, and it works great.
