Optical drive immediately ejects media
I just purchased a used Studio XPS 1640. When I put a dvd (works elsewhere) in the optical drive, the drive ejects it about a second later. What is possibly wrong? Could it be a bad cable, or is it likely something more serious?
Thank in advance.

Hi,
Welcome to the community
Will the drive only ejects when there is a disc inside? What will happen if you close the drive empty? Is this under warranty with Dell? You can add me as a friend and send a private message with service tag. Thank you.

The drive is just a slot in the side of the computer. It does not close. The drive ejects every disc as soon as I put each one in.

Sounds like a drive problem. Possible replacement is required. You can call out Out-of-Warranty Team at 1-800-2884410 for parts and repair options.
