not enough options for SSD drives?

I'm planning to purchase a XPS 8700 Special Edition desktop. I'm dissapointed that it doesn't give options for this model- for hard drives, only "2TB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive 6.0 Gb/s + 256GB SSD"- which of course is a good combination, but for me, I think a smaller SSD drive would be fine. Otherwise, I like the rest of the system. A friend who builds his own PCs says he installed a 128 G SSD and it's plenty large with Win8,  MS Office, Photoshop and other major programs installed.

So, this is just a comment, not a problem, but I wish Dell would offer more options, including a 3 or 4 TB drive. A Dell tech suggested going to workstation route- but when I looked there, I was a bit confused about the drives- the workstations all seem to have multiple drives, probably for Raid configurations, which is something over my head and over my needs.

Or, is it a good idea to have plenty of empty space on the SSD?

Hi Hellogoodby,

Thanks for your comments. There's not that much of a cost difference between the 128GB and 256GB SSDs. Dell is likely purchasing in bulk based on customer demand and right now most people want 256GB or larger. You are absolutely correct that 128GB is plenty for the OS and applications. I have a 250GB Samsung Evo and have used less than 50GB for the OS, Office and all my other apps.
